Update: |
Massachusetts maintains a licensing
program for environmental professionals who oversee assessments and cleanups
in the waste site cleanup program, which addresses soil and ground-water
contamination at non-Superfund sites in the Commonwealth. Some of these
environmental professionals happen to be geologists, but many others are
environmental, chemical, or civil engineers; chemists; environmental
scientists; risk assessors, and associated disciplines. |

Michigan does not require licensure
or registration of geologists. Sections of the Natural Resources and
Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended, set standards for
persons preparing or reviewing certain geologic reports or data in specific
instances. |

Update: |
Bills have been introduced in the Legislature to require a person engaged
in the public practice of geology to be licensed as a geologist. The bills
would also establish a Board of Professional Geologists, set fees for
licensure, and require the State Geologist to be licensed. No action has
been taken on the bills. |
