CPAT for Universities

Curriculum Performance Assessment Tool to evaluate and align geology programs

About the CPAT Program

The Curriculum Performance Assessment Tool (CPAT) is a specialized statistical analysis software developed by ASBOG to assist university and college geology/geosciences departments in benchmarking their curricula.

CPAT enables geoscience departments to perform statistical reviews of their graduates' performance on the Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination relative to national averages. The primary goal is to help faculty identify subject-specific curriculum gaps, track department progress longitudinally, and enhance educational delivery.

Program Features & Benefits

Curriculum Benchmarking

Compare your graduating students' scores against the national mean scores across all eight ASBOG areas of practice (content domains). Understand how your department ranks in fundamental subjects like mineralogy, hydrogeology, or structural geology.

Longitudinal Data Tracking

Access multi-year statistical reports (using Z-scores, percentiles, and normalized ratio plots) to analyze long-term trends in student preparation and identify year-over-year adjustments in subject mastery.

Program Enhancement

Utilize detailed domain-level sub-score breakdowns to justify adjustments to course content, curriculum redesigns, or laboratory resource requests to university administrators, deans, and department chairs.

Complimentary Access

The CPAT service is provided at no cost to geoscience departments that have a minimum volume of 10 students represented in the national examination database over their tracking period.
